Oval lab-grown diamond reference illustration

Shape & selection guide

Oval lab-grown diamonds.

An oval gives a longer footprint than a circular outline, but two ovals of equal weight can look very different. Start with the actual length and width, then judge the shoulders, symmetry and how the centre behaves as the stone moves.

What to check in a oval diamond

  • Compare centre contrast in a gentle face-up video; one dark still frame is not a complete bow-tie assessment.
  • Check that both ends and shoulders form a balanced outline without obvious flat or bulging areas.
  • Choose a length-to-width ratio you like rather than treating a single ratio as a guarantee of brilliance.

Plan the setting around the stone

Agree north–south or east–west orientation with your jeweller. Confirm the clearance under the centre stone if you want a wedding band to sit beside the ring.

Verify the selected stone’s report and confirm growth origin and any treatment disclosure. Reference images, grades and estimated dimensions on this page do not certify a specific diamond.
